Benefit event for GATEWAY TO NEPAL this Sunday!

Great Food and Great Music!!! All for $20, to raise funds for community development projects for former slaves in Nepal!

This Sunday, all-you-can eat "brinner" -- breakfast for dinner! -- for $20 (advance sale tickets; $25 at the door) at SoundBites. Doors open at 5pm. This is to benefit Gateway to Nepal, an organization working to make the lives of former slaves better by helping build their communities. For more information and to purchase tickets to this event, please go to our website: www.gatewaytonepal.org

Also, at this event, we will have live performances by local singer-songwriter, Ksenia Mack, and some of the Porch Party Mamas! You won't want to miss this! All-you-can eat brinner at THE BEST breakfast establishment in the Boston area AND live entertainment!

Soundbites is located at 704 Broadway, Ball Sq, Somerville, MA. The event begins at 5pm. Buy your tickets in advance (www.gatewaytonepal.org/donate/online/) and hope to see you there!

----------------------------------
About Gateway to Nepal....
Our involvement in South Asia began in 1999 when one of our board members saw an
opportunity he couldn’t pass up. When he learned that it cost only about $100 to free a family
who was bound in slavery, he traveled to Nepal and purchased the freedom of 42 families. Shortly
thereafter, the government of this Himalayan nation officially banned slavery, freeing over
200,000 people! The problem now is that these families have their freedom, but literally
nothing else - they are in extreme poverty. Therefore, Gateway to Nepal is partnering with local
leaders to do basic community development for these newly freed men and women.

Currently:
o We’ve recently finished building a beautiful new school for the children, and we’d like to
build more.
o We’ve helped many families purchase farmland, but now we need to help them irrigate
the land by building wells. We are also installing two water treatment systems so entire
villages have access to clean water.
o We would like to purchase one water buffalo for each family so that they can drink and
sell its milk. This will help them earn about $1 per day to live on.
o We are giving these villagers microloans to start up a banana plantation to provide
families with a source of income.

Your donations help us dig wells to irrigate the land and purchase water buffaloes to help make
families financially independent. Each well costs about $1000 and each buffalo costs about
$250. Water buffaloes provide approximately 4 liters of milk a day. One liter can be used to
provide nutrition for the family’s children and the other 3 can be sold, providing families with
sustainable financial support. Your donations also provide new school supplies for the children
attending our school and go towards sponsoring teachers in the villages. Finally, your donations
allow us to provide villagers with microloans to work towards their financial independence.
Visit us at: www.gatewaytonepal.org

5th Annual BOSTON BUNNY BARHOP

Hey you! You are cordially invited to participate in the totally epic 5th Annual Boston Bunny Barhop! That's right, come spread springtime cheer whilst making a total ass of yourself!

WHAT: A good ol'-fashioned barhop in bunny ears. We will move together as a boisterous band of boozed-up bunnies, hopping from bar to bar to bar to bar to bar, grabbing a real-quick drink at each spot, giving out high fives, and just generally sticking it to the Man.

WHEN: Easter weekend, of course. Friday, April 10th. First drink of the night around 9 p.m!

WHERE: Cambridge, MA. Starting-line bar = Miracle of Science Bar & Grill, 321 Mass Ave.

WEB: Please visit www.bunnybarhop.moonfruit.com if you need further convincing!

------- THE SORDID DETAILS -------

GLOWINESS!: We like to establish as glorious a street presence as possible, so we encourage maximum GLOW-iness! Please deck your bad self out with glowsticks, LEDs, EL-wire, lasers, flamethrowers, or, like, whatever!

HOTLINE!: The Bunny Barhop Hotline will be open all night. Participants may call the number: (508) 265-9141 and get minute-to-minute updates on the current location of the 'Hop. Come join the rabble at any time (though we'd love to have you there for the whole ugly drunken affair, start to glorious finish).

ROUTE!: There's a planned route for the 'Hop, hitting hotspots (and freaking out squares!) down Mass Ave toward Harvard Square. Traditionally we get as far as The People's Republik (876 Mass Ave), so proactive designated drivers may wish to park around this area at the beginning of the night.

LOVE!: We welcome rabbits of all cliques, circles, & crews. Throw on your ears, come on down, and make a mass of instant new drunken friends!

RULES!: There is only one hard n' fast rule (say it with us, people): RABBIT EARS MANDATORY. Seriously seriously seriously. Fashion them out of construction paper. Grab them from the Easter aisle of your friendly neighborhood drugstore. Maim a stuffed animal. Just wear the frickin' ears.

Questions & suggestions may be directed to your friendly rabbit coordinators:

The Pan Mass Challenge (Cross Posted)

I apologize to anybody reading this again. I want to get the word out.

It started as a ride. It started as a way of remembering a mother or a sister. A father or a brother. A friend or someone they had just met. Less than 20 friends getting together to ride and remember someone that had succumbed to cancer. More than 20 years later and donations totaling over $100 million dollars, it has turned into an event. An event that celebrates those that have survived and for those that will.

We ride in remembrance. We ride for those not yet cured. Those that cannot say, "I am cancer free for one year, two years, three years". We ride for those not old enough to experience a Red Sox World Championship, or a Patriots Super Bowl victory. We ride for those that cannot understand why this has happened to them and for those that never had a chance to fight back. We ride for those who wait for a cure.

I am part of the PMC family – a unified force working toward a common goal. We’re athletes, weekend warriors, or (like myself) have little previous cycling experience. But we all have one thing in common - the commitment to helping others and being part of an effort much larger than ourselves.

I am part of the PMC family - and I need your help. I hate asking for money, so I won’t. Instead, I’m inviting you to a fundraiser.

Please join me in supporting this great cause.

Shimmies for a Cure – Part Deux
March 29, 2008
Somerville City Club
Somerville, MA 02143

A night a great dancing performed by some of New England’s favorite belly dancers.

$25 includes over 20 performers, hors dourves, a chocolate fountain with dipping delights, and non-alcoholic beverages.

There will be raffles, a silent auction, and vending.

The Somerville City Club is located close to Sullivan Square T stop and close to Route 93.

TENSION PROUDLY PRESENTS

THE MASS AVE. MASSACRE!!!

*HALLOWEEN PARTY WITH MEAT KATIE!!!*

MEAT KATIE ~~~~~~~~~>
(MOIST, ADRIFT, LOT49,TCR, WWW.MEATKATIE.COM, UK)

Despite the confusing alias Meat Katie is actually a man, and in particular a man named Mark Pember from Kingston (Surrey, UK). He also happens to be one the most influential DJs and producers of the last ten years when it comes to dance music.

Heavily immersed in hip hop and b-boy culture as a youngster (a teenage Pember was an accomplished graffiti artist) his passion for deconstructing music and examining it’s core elements is something that has built his career from the ground up. The deconstruction of Hip Hop’s sample based productions led to a fascination with funk, soul and jazz which in turn ignited a passion to learn to play an instrument. The appeal of the bass guitar won through and by the age of 17 he was playing in his first band, Trafalgar.

His first experience of heavy touring (something which has stood him in good stead for his current schedule) was with Sandladder, a band which was signed to Iggy Pop’s Kill City imprint, but while doing this the draw of the burgeoning acid house scene was exerting it’s influence on Mark.

When Sandladder split Pember and a friend of his who owned a sampler started sampling breaks from his now large funk collection which led to the creation of a new band, Ceasefire. Comprising Pember, Derek Dahlarge and Jason O’Brian (who Mark subsequently did an album with for R&S) Ceasefire signed to Wall Of Sound and had a hit with “Trickshot” at the height of the big-beat explosion. Pember, however, left the band afterwards and created his Meat Katie alias.

The first of the Meat Katie output was released on Kingsize and was (and still is) the perfect combination of Pember’s dual loves, house and breakbeat. His house music contains the rough, gritty elements of breakbeat while his breakbeat takes the grooves and hypnotic vibe of house music. It doesn’t stop there, though, with Mark also taking cues from electro and techno too.

With two albums (“Off The Bone” and “Long To Belong”) and over 11 singles on Kingsize as well as releases on Mantra, Saw and Bedrock receiving plaudits from DJs, Press and fans whatever their genre bias, Pember has been credited with opening up the previously insular breaks scene with his unique brand of “tech-funk”.

A love of collaborative work has seen Pember work with Arthur Baker, Justin Drake (Peace Division), Dylan Rhymes, Elite Force, Roland Clarke, Aquasky, Holly Golightly and Kurt Wagner among others while his magical touch with remixes has graced the likes of Deep Dish, Stefan K, Unkle, Serge Santiago and Phil Kieran over the years.

Clearly not one for slacking, Mark also ran the hugely successful (and again, genre bending) Whole 9 Yards imprint before leaving to start his Lot49 label in 2004 – no mean feat considering he DJs the world over each and every weekend of the year.

Pember’s third artist album ‘Vibrator’ is released on Adrift Records. A mix of breaks, house, electro and techno it is a true reflection of his Dj style. The album features collaborations from artists including D Ramirez, Katherine Ellis, Aquasky, Jono Fernandez and Elite Force. He has also taken to the road with reknown video jockey VJ Anyone to provide the ‘Vibrator’ AV show which has been receiving rave reviews.

Looking for Drinking Guide and Party Suggestions

Greetings everyone! My fiance and I are getting married in Boston on the 20th of July and I am I looking for suggestions regarding where we should go to party and have fun in the Boston area. We are all about good beer and friendly atmospheres. Live music in the Irish or acoustic vein would be good.

We are actually arriving on the 14th and will leave on the 22nd, so we will have many evenings where we will be looking for places to hang out and meet some new people. We would love to find a group of people to bar hop with or just hang out with any of the evenings we are in town.

If you are interested in being a party guide and would enjoy a few free beers, let me know. You can read more about me in my profile. My fiance is Mel - people.tribe.net/chasingjoy

Thank you in advance.

Final Call: Rabid Rabbits Boston Bunny Barhop

LAST CALL!

for the First Annual Rabid Rabbits Boston Bunny Barhop. Tie on your ears and join the revolution.

This Friday, 3/25!

Kickoff drinks at 8 p.m. sharp at:
Miracle of Science Bar & Grill
Central Square
321 Massachusetts Ave (at Main St), Cambridge, MA

We'll grab a quick drink here, then proceed to the next bar, then proceed to the next bar, then proceed to the next bar...

Call the Rabid Rabbits hotline (after 8 p.m.) to find out the current location of the Barhop: (508) 265-9141.

Come join the rabble at any point (though we'd love to have you there for the whole ugly drunken affair, start to finish.)

REMEMBER:

There will be a planned route for the Barhop, hitting hotspots (and freaking out squares!) all along Mass Ave.

We'll be moving from Central Square to Harvard Square.
In chronological order, here are some bars we'll probably hit:

Central Square
miracle of science (definite starting point 8pm sharp)
all asia
asgard
zuzu
middle east upstairs
phoenix landing

Harvard Square
uno's
whitneys
grendel's den
upstairs on the square
brother jimmy's
redline
hong kongs (mmm scorpion bowls!!!)

*This is a ballpark itinerary. We may skip bars on the list, and we may hit other bars not even listed. But you get the idea.

We plan on climaxing the Barhop at Psyforia (www.sonicbeating.org/psyforia.html), in an all-out fuzzy-white blitzkrieg bunny invasion.

We welcome rabbits of all cliques, circles, & crews. Throw on your ears, come on down, and make a mass of instant new drunken friends!

There is only one hard n' fast rule: RABBIT EARS MANDATORY. Seriously. Fashion them out of construction paper. Grab them from the Easter candy aisle of your friendly neighborhood drugstore. Maim a stuffed animal. Just wear the frickin' ears.
(We got ours for like 4 bucks at Walgreen's.)

See you there, dude.
